Vornado 154 Whole Room Tower Fan

Love my noisy Vornado 154
I originally bought one of these for my kids' bedroom. We live in South Carolina, and they go to bed before sunset during the summer -- so their room tends to be too hot at just the wrong time. The Vornado 154 Whole Room Tower Fan took care of that problem.

As a bonus, we no longer need to need to run a Marpac Dohm-DS Dual Speed Sound Conditioner white noise machine in their room at night. The fan has four speed settings. The highest setting is wicked loud -- and crazy effective. It'd be hard to be in the room for too long on the highest speed, but it can cool things down very quickly. On the second to highest speed, the fan is effective at both cooling a room overnight and producing a decent amount of white noise.

What a great fan
I have owned a lot of fans, but never have I had a fan with this much power. The air flow is just outstanding and the air does seem to cover a lot of space. My only problem with this fan is that it sits right on top of the floor. So, that means if you like the fan to hit you in a chair, you might be out of luck. However, placing the fan on a table (the fan does not need to rotate and does not) is the perfect solution. So far, so great, love this fan.

Overall, this is a great fan. We've been using this for two summers. We don't own a McMansion or have a "Great Room" with two-story ceilings, but for those a ceiling fan would be more appropriate anyway.

The reason I gigged it to 4-Stars is that the fan turns on to its highest setting as soon as the power is applied. Any loose papers in the vicinity are likely to be blown away until the speed is dropped to Setting Two or One. For this reason, using the remote to turn it on is less useful. I usually stand directly in front of the fan in order to keep the morning's newspaper from decorating the rest of the room.

If Vornado would have simply made Setting One the default speed, allowing the user to kick it up to the appropriate level, I would have unhesitatingly given it the full 5-Stars.
