Idahone V-Type Ceramic Rod Sharpener with 4 rods

I have had this sharpener for several years after trying a number of others. It works very well; just follow the instructions. Sometimes I forget which rods are "coarse" and which ones are fine because you can't really see the difference. I look at the instructions and somewhere hidden is mention that the white ones are the fine ones. That leaves the purple as the "coarse." If a knife is severely dinged you may need to use something to get the dings out, like an oil stone, but once it is free of dings, this sharpener does the job quickly. Knives need to be sharpened often; I fail to do so, but when I get around to it these ceramic rods work wonders.

It worked the first time
And when I say the first time, I mean I had never sharpened a knife, using any system, before I used this Idahone system. I'd used a knife steel before to re-center the edge on my knives, but those don't actually sharpen. I tried it out on an Opinel #8 stainless steel blade and an old Swedish Mora stainless blade (both Sandvik steel) yesterday. Both knives were inexpensive but have decent quality steel. I didn't want to run the risk of ruining a more expensive knife on a learning curve. Neither knife was terribly dull, but they did need a good sharpening. This thing got them back to like-new paper-cutting sharpness in my neophyte hands in a short time. Actually, the Opinel was new, but didn't come out of the box very sharp - it wasn't capable of cutting paper until I tuned it up with the Idahone system, but it is now. I was concerned about attempting to keep a good edge on a rather expensive knife set. After using this sharpener system, my knives have returned to surgical sharpness. I would highly recommend this set to anyone who cares about their knives.
